The subject of the dissertation is decided by the student in consultation with a supervisor. It is an opportunity to research a topic of particular interest, resulting in written work of approximately 15,000 words.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module, students should be able to:

- Work independently on an advanced research topic;
- Produce an extended piece of written work of postgraduate standard;
- Demonstrate research and organisation skills and self-motivation;
- Demonstrate a sustained facility in analysis, expression and argument;
- Demonstrate the ability to identify, consult, assess, and appropriately make use of sources relevant to their research.

How will my Feedback be Delivered?

Students present on their provisional thesis project at the beginning of semester 2 where they benefit from peer and staff feedback. Students receive further feedback on their written provisional proposal from their programme director before being assigned a supervisor. Students are allocated a suitable supervisor from the School of English, Drama and Film staff who will meet with the student according to an agreed schedule to give feedback on their written work up until the end of June in the summer trimester.
