ENVB10020 Biological Identification: Field and Laboratory Methods

Academic Year 2017/2018

Students will be introduced to the classification and identification of a range of biological groups, all not necessarily to species level. Students will choose one or more groups for instruction in species-level identification. This will aid the project work in module three. Students will be instructed in the sampling methods appropriate to each group. Students will be given credit for identification workshops taken in the National Biodiversity Data Centre.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of the module students will:
- Be able to identify a range of biological groups to at least family level in the field;
- Have acquired the skills to identify a selected group of organisms to species level;
- Be able to apply sampling methods appropriate to each group.
