ENVB40520 Practicum (Research) January (On-line)

Academic Year 2023/2024

This module is for students of the MSc in Environmental Sustainability (Negotiated Learning) programme. Those students intending to build towards a Masters Degree (90 credits) must take either the ENVB40470 Practicum (Desk Study) or ENVB40520 Practicum (Research; lab/field). The ENVB40520 Practicum Research module is not available to students registered to the Certificate, Diploma or Module to Masters programmes.
The objective is to give students rigorous training in the planning, execution and write-up in the format of a research paper. Students carry out an individual research project under the direction of an academic supervisor. Students may join the supervisor's research team and carry out the practical work in the laboratory or field site, or they may undertake a project in their own workplace or other location deemed suitable by the module coordinator. This is followed by a period for data analysis and write-up in the format of a research paper. Students will be required to carry out a literature review prior to commencing the project and submit a plan and timeline for the research, for approval. This will be carried out off-campus. The research (campus or off-campus) will then be carried out as planned. This will be followed by a period of data analysis and finally the write up.
