GEOG20110 Geographic Research Techniques

Academic Year 2018/2019

In a knowledge-based society, the ability to source, analyse and report information is a key generic skill. A well-trained geographer should be able to research and think in a holistic manner and to communicate effectively through a range of media. This module will help you to develop a mix of generic and disciplinary-specific research skills through lectures, small-group practical classes and a significant amount of autonomous learning. The emphasis will be on 'spatial awareness' and active participation in the class and in the field. You will be expected to complete regular assignments throughout the semester in and outside of class time as well as an end of module assessment. Fieldwork on one Saturday, the date of which will be advised at the beginning of the semester, will be mandatory.

Extensive use will be made of the Blackboard electronic learning environment.
