Students will be able to discuss key aesthetic trends and musical practices in Paris between the late nineteenth century and mid-twentieth century. They will be able to recognise key works by a range of composers from this period, relating compositions to the broader cultural context. Having completed the course, students will also have improved their skills in reading analytical texts, appraising scholarly views, offering synthetic readings of scholarly disagreements, conducting academic research, and communicating their findings to others (both in the form of essays and presentations).
