NMHS20410 Introduction to Psychology for Health Care

This module will provide students with a broad and stimulating introduction to psychological concepts, theories and research as they apply to health. It will provide students with an understanding of the application of psychological theories, concepts and methods in health care. Students will be challenged to think about health and psychological phenomena from multiple perspectives.This module will have a pass fail portfolio requirement.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module students should be able to:
Compare and contrast several theoretical perspectives in psychology as applied to health and illness.
Show an appreciation of the psychosocial factors influencing health behaviours.
Critically appraise the impact of media on psychological health and coping.
Demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between stress and health.
Explore an integrated approach to health and illness.
