This module introduces students to the systematic management of occupational health and safety, including the development and implementation of effective systems to reduce the risk of injury and loss.

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of this module students will be able to:

Apply the concept of identifying, evaluating and managing health and safety risks in a systematic manner and develop appropriate means of reducing the risk of injury and loss, including risk control measures.

Develop and recommend effective communication systems for health and safety information, including consultation.

Develop and recommend policy, organisational systems, reactive and proactive monitoring systems, and auditing and review systems in health and safety matters.

Detail and discuss various health and safety risk management systems and their interaction with complementary quality and environmental management systems.

Be aware of and be able to integrate knowledge of related issues such as relevant Legislation, Codes of Practice, Standards, and other relevant issues.

Be capable of contributing to the development of a workplace safety management system.

Students must be aged over 23 years, be employed or seeking employment and have at least 3 years work experience. This module contains work-based assignments and if students are not working, they will be unable to meet the credit requirements.
