OSH30040 Human and Organisational Behaviour at Work

This module examines human and organisational behavioural theory and practice in relation to safety and health at work, and applies this knowledge to the human interface with work, to the improvement of the working environment, promotion of safe work practices and a safety culture.

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of this module students will be able to:

Explain the physical structure and function of the human body in relation to work and have an understanding of related ergonomic problems including musculoskeletal disorders that can arise;

Apply the principles of ergonomics to the person, the task, work systems, environment and equipment design;

Carry out a basic ergonomic assessment;

Demonstrate understanding of the influence of individual, group and organisational factors on human behaviour in the workplace;

Understand the role health and safety leadership in plays in an organisation to advance OSH culture;
Explain the significance of organisational culture and be able to develop strategies for organisational change and for the promotion of a health and safety culture;

Use the theories of learning and training as a basis to develop and advise on the implementation of OSH training programmes and communication strategies;

Understand the basic theories of stress at work and be able to develop, advise and implement policies to prevent work-related stress;

Understand the role unconscious bias and awareness of dignity and respect in the workplace has on workplace wellbeing.
