This module examines management and organisational behavioural theory and practice in relation to safety and health at work. The module applies this knowledge to human interface with work and to the improvement of the working environment and promotion of safe work practices, safety behaviour and a safety culture.

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of this module students will be able to:

Understand the relevance and influence of human behaviour in the workplace in the context of OSH management;

Explain the differences between individual, group and organisational behaviour and consider these as factors in behaviour based safety workplace practice;

Have an awareness workplace stress and be able to advise on the implementation of workplace policies designed to alleviate workplace stress;

Understand the theories underpinning approaches recommended for workplace communications that can promote a positive OSH workplace culture and climate;

Understand the role dignity and respect plays in the workplace and how they can foster a positive work culture that is inclusive of individual employee wellbeing;

Self reflect on their own learning and development and demonstrate an awareness of the role lifelong learning plays in the OSH professional.
