PSY40500 Perspectives on Disability

This module provbides students with an introduction to the broad range of perspectives on disability. The module explores physical, sensory and intellectual disabilities that are both congenital and acquired, as well as mental health difficulties and other chronic conditions. The module is grounded in a disability studies framework, and within this context will consider the experiences of these groups from the perspectives of theory, research and application. Centrl to the module is the development of critical evaluation skills.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of the module, students will: 1) Have an understanding of the broad spectrum of disabilities effecting people, 2) Be aware of the influence of major theoretical perspectives on disability, 3)Be able to identify and critque the issues for the major disability groupings in modern society evident in research and practice literature.

1) An honours BA at 2.2 Honours level or above 2) To be working with a relevant client group 3) To register for the other modules which comprise the MSc in Rehabilitation & Disability Studies
