PSY40710 Disability in Context

Academic Year 2018/2019

In this module students will explore the influence of different contextual factors in understanding disability. There are three key contexts to be explored. The first is the theoretical context, with students introduced to the main theoretical positions in disability studies. The second is policy and legislation, including the history of disability policy, the articles of Irish legislation and policy that affect people with disabilities, and some examples of cases from Irish, European and American law on disability. The final context is the professional context, which recognises the role of professional skills and perspectives for individuals working in the disability sector.
