RDGY30450 RDGY30450 Radiography/Radiology International Elective A

Academic Year 2023/2024

The elective module is designed to allow students in the Radiography Programme to pursue additional training in areas of interest to them and to improve on previously learned skills. It is a 4-6 week module that will take place in Summer. The student may choose between a 4-6 week (5 credit version) or 8-12 week (10 credit version) elective in an approved institution; in the case of the latter the electives may occur at the same or different institutions. The elective may occur in a clinical or non-clinical discipline. It must be of educational value and will need to be approved by the module co-ordinator or head of subject. The student will be required to submit a brief outline of the proposed elective which should include 2-3 goals against which the student's performance will be measured upon completion of the module. Achievement of the stated goals and attendance for the requisite amount of time will be required for successful completion of the module.

Learning activities will vary according to the discipline the students choose for their elective. It is expected that these will include one-on-one teaching by the mentor or those that he/she designates such as team members, research assistants etc., directed and self-directed learning, patient interaction and other practical and/or research experiences, as appropriate. Assessment occurs through continuous assessment, negotiated learning contract and reflective portfolio designed to document knowledge gained through the elective. The module is grade point neutral and students will be awarded a pass or fail grade. Those who fail will not be awarded any credits and hence will need to repeat the module in order to achieve the required credits.
