Welcome to the
Molecular Microbiology group of the School of Biomolecular and Biomedical
Sciences. This group is affiliated with the Conway
Institute of Biomolecular and Biomedical Research and the Dublin Molecular Medicine Centre. Our research interests focus on the interaction and adaptation of micro organisms to changing environments. In particular we are interested in the virulence mechanisms of the intracellular pathogen Rhodococcus equi. In addition, we focus on environmental issues such as the determination of the location of harvest of fish, and the source tracking of faecal contamination in coastal waters using Microbial Source Tracking. Research in the Molecular Microbiology group is funded by the Environmental Protection Agency, The Department of Agriculture Fisheries and Food, The Horse Racing Betting Levy Board and the European Union.
