Scientific Goals
Nanomedicine is the medical application of nanotechnology. UCD has expertise in chemistry, biology, physics, engineering, and medicine that together make the UCD Nanomedicine Centre prime for becoming a world leader in developing novel, well-characterised, fully functional, and targeted nanomedicines. UCD also has the potential to be a test-bed for the clinical application of these novel nanotechnologies through its Medical School and affiliation with St. Vincent’s University Hospital.
The Centre's specific goals are:
- To develop world-class research programmes across key strategic disciplines that have the potential for significant impact.
- To strategically create state-of-the-art facilities and populate the space in the Nanomedicine Centre with the equipment and research personnel that will allow UCD to bring in funds and international/industry collaborations.
- To build collaborations with industry and research institutes nationally and internationally.
- To engage in policy discussions around the societal implications of nanomedical research.
- To facilitate graduate education in nanoscience including individual modules, taught masters courses and research masters placements as well as summer programmes for international students.
