World leading expert in international aviation law, Professor Brian Havel (UCD Law 1978) has teamed up with Dermot Cahill of the UCD School of Law to bring the European Air & Space Law (EALA) Congress to Ireland for the first time in its 19 year history.

The congress which will be officially opened by the Minister for Transport, Noel Dempsey, will take place from 0 8 - 09 November 2007. Major international figures in the world of global aviation law and policy will participate in the Congress including the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Transportation Affairs, Mr John Byerly and the European Commission’s Director of Air Transport, Mr Daniel Calleja.

Professor Havel, Professor of Law, Associate Dean, and Director of the International Aviation Law Institute at UCD's partner institution in Chicago, DePaul University College of Law, is presently serving as Fulbright Visiting Chair in Comparative Law at McGill University in Montreal.

On 08 November, a high-level working group of US and EU airline industry leaders, government officials, and academics, including the authors of the new US/EU Open Skies Agreement will assemble at Newman House. And on 09 November the Congress will convene at the Royal College of Physicians, Kildare Street, Dublin.
