The Irish Times Debate 2008 - Grand Final

Hosted by UCD's Law society, watch the twelve best debaters from The Irish times Debate 2008 compete in the grand final for the most coveted trophy in Irish debating. In the final, UCD is represented by the UCD Law Society team of Ross McGuire and Marguerite Carter and by the UCD L&H individual speaker Stephen Boyle.

Motion: "This House belives that Ireland owes a debt of gratitude to the Catholic Church"

  • In First Proposition, for the UCC Philosoph, Art Ward & Derek Doyle
  • In First Opposition, for the UCD Law Society, Ross McGuire & Marguerite Carter

  • In Second Proposition, for the College Historical Society, Andrea Mulligan & John Gallagher
  • In Second Opposition, also for the College Historical Society, Chris Kissane & David Kenny

And the Individuals:

  • First Proposition individual, for the UCC Philosoph, Conor O'Brien
  • First Opposition individual, for the L&H, Stephen Boyle

  • Second Proposition Individual, for the UCC Philosoph, Ross Frennett

The debate will be chaired by Eamonn Gilmore TD, leader of the Labour Party. There will be a post-debate reception in the Centre Bar, hosted by the UCD Law Society.
