UCD Community Musical - Guys & Dolls

The UCD Community Musical presents the acclaimed Broadway comedy, Guys & Dolls, in a special five-performance run, 18-21 Feburary in UCD O'Reilly Hall.

Set in NYC in the 1950s, the show portrays the struggle between a gang of well-oiled gamblers and the missionaries who have pledged to save their souls. But can the dedicated followers of “The Oldest Established Permanent Floating Crap Game in New York" be lured into changing their ways so easily?

Students and staff from all around the UCD Community take to the stage. The role of Sarah Brown will be played by Waterford-born Arts student Megan Cassidy, who sang for Andrew Lloyd Webber on the TV programme 'How To Solve a Problem Like Maria', where she reached the final 30 of 6,000. She then went on to play 'Sarah Browne' in Flaggy Lane's Guys & Dolls, winning Best Female performer in the Waterford International Festival of Light Opera.

Sky Masterson will be played by Commerce student Donal Cumiskey, while Nathan Detroit will be played by Arts student Steven Byrne, both from Dublin.

Mick Dunne, from UCD School of Chemistry and Chemical Biology will play Arvide Abernathy. Bairbre Murphy from UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School will play General Matilda B Cartwright. Treasa Uí Lideadha from UCD College of Life Sciences will perform as Lt Agatha.

Directed by Barry Kavanagh, choreographed by Maura Talbot, and with musical direction by UCD Choral Scholars’ Artistic Director, Des Early the show promises a unique nights’ entertainment at UCD.

Tickets, €15 / €10 (students/concessions), are available at the UCD Community Musical Box Office Stand, located in the Newman Building, or any Student Union shop, and online through www.ucd.ie/musical.

Performances (18th-21st) commence at 7.30pm sharp. A matinee will also be performed at 1.30pm on Thursday the 19th.

The show is in Aid of UCD SVdeP and is supported by the Office of the Vice-President for Students.
