UCD ranked 5th university in Europe for producing venture capital backed entrepreneurs

University College Dublin is ranked 5th in a list of European universities that have produced venture capital (VC) backed undergraduates and it is the only Irish university in the top 10 of European universities. US-based research firm for private equity and venture capital data, Pitchbook, which compiled the list, calculated that between January 2009 to August 2014, 31 UCD graduate entrepreneurs established 26 companies which raised $112 million in funding.

According to the Report entitled ‘Top Universities for VC-backed Entrepreneurs’, Stanford University ranked number 1 globally with 378 entrepreneurs, establishing 309 companies raising just over $3.5 billion, and the University of London ranked the best overall university in Europe with 71 graduate entrepreneurs, establishing 67 companies which raised just over $1 billion in funding.

The PitchBook VC database includes the educational backgrounds of over 13,000 founders worldwide. The rankings are based on the number of founders that have received VC funding in period of the report based on the founders’ undergraduate qualifications.
