Dr Hugh Brady, former President of UCD, announced as next President and Vice-Chancellor of The University of Bristol

The University of Bristol today announced the appointment of Dr Hugh Brady as its next Vice-Chancellor and President.  Dr Brady will succeed Professor Sir Eric Thomas when he takes up his role in September 2015.

Dr Brady, who completed his term as President of UCD in December 2013, will become the University of Bristol’s 13th Vice-Chancellor.

The President of UCD, Professor Andrew Deeks, warmly congratulated Dr Brady on his appointment.  “Under the leadership of Hugh Brady UCD was brought into the realm of world-class universities.  He successfully led UCD through the introduction of semesterisation and the reform of the curriculum (UCD Horizons).  He ensured significant enhancement of the campus, backed by generous support from private donors, alumni and students.  He oversaw huge increases in research grant income, and the development of multi-disciplinary research institutes addressing major global issues.”

The University of Bristol is ranked within the top 30 universities globally (QS World University Rankings 2014) and is a member of the UK Russell Group of leading research-intensive universities.
