11-13 Jan 2007 - 'Propaganda and the mass media in the making of cold war Europe'

Venue: UCD Humanities Institute

Time: 2.30pm

From Marshall Plan propaganda films to the construction of the Stalin Myth, over 40 speakers over three days will discuss the impact of the media on popular opinion on both sides of the iron curtain over the decades. View the complete programme here.

The workshop aims to bring together scholars from a wide range of academic disciplines and regional expertise in order to explore how, in the early Cold War years, the mass media were instrumental in the reinvention of Europe’s cultural identity. In the light of the latest research on the 1950s, the workshop will investigate the reshaping of European public consciousness through propaganda, culture and ideology from the perspective of a reunited Europe.
