UCD
is today mourning one of its outstanding graduates, Mick Doyle.
The rugby club and the wider community in UCD are greatly saddened
to learn of Micks death in a road accident, whilst returning
from business in Northern Ireland.
He
qualified as a Veterinary Surgeon in 1964 alongside Jimmy Kelly,
current president of UCD RFC. Both captained College to win the
Leinster Senior Cup in successive years, 1963, 1964 and went on
to play for Ireland on many occasions. Mick also played for the
Lions and famously coached the Irish team to win the Triple Crown
in 1985. But it is for his great integrity, courage, honour and
the warmth of his friendship that he will be truly remembered by
his many friends in UCD and throughout the rugby playing world.
His
loyalty to his roots was legendry. Castleisland and his time as
a student in UCD played a vital part in building a man who is often
described as A colourful figure, larger than life. He
was much more than that. He was the most loyal of friends and a
true patriot.
