On the 26 November Dr. Noam
Chomsky addressed the members of the Literary & Historical
Society before being conferred with an Honorary Fellowship of the
society. A Nobel Prize Winner in linguistics, Dr. Chomsky has come to
popular acclaim for his commentary upon U.S. foreign policy.
The Literary & Historical Society honoured him with the highest award it can bestow upon an
individual. His address was beamed into the James Joyce theatre of
the John Henry Newman building via satellite link from M.I.T. His speech
centred on the issue of Iraq and the war on terror.
The Literary & Historical Society
has in previous years hosted Nobel Prize Winners, John Hume, Seamus
Heaney and F.W. De Klerk. Bob Geldof, John Simpson and former President
Mary Robinson will visit the L&H later in the year.
