UCD will host Open Days for Incoming Students on Friday 9th and Saturday 10th December. All incoming students for 2006 (final year students and mature students), their parents and families, and guidance counsellors are invited to discover what UCD has to offer. At the event you will hear about the exciting range of degree programmes available and how UCD Horizons, our new modular curriculum, offers students more choice than ever before. On the day, you will also have the opportunity to find out more about UCD’s great range of student support services and campus facilities including our outstanding sports facilities and our on-campus student residences.

Over 4,000 first year students enrolled in the UCD Horizons curriculum in September 2005. Under this new wider-choice curriculum, out of a total of twelve first year modules, students can choose up to two elective modules from outside their core degree area. In September, many students decided to deepen their knowledge of their core subject area by selecting elective modules from within their core degree area if they wish. However, many other students took the opportunity to choose elective modules from outside their core degree area to complement their core subject area rather that to deepen their knowledge of it.
Some examples of this were Business and Law students who selected modules in Languages, Health Sciences (including Medicine) students who opted for modules in Psychology, Landscape Architecture students who picked modules in Architecture, and Mechanical Engineering students who took up modules in Computer Science. Other students decided to opt for a broader knowledge base by selecting elective modules such as Equality Studies, Anatomy, Early Irish, Film Studies, and Social Policy alongside their core subject modules.

UCD Horizons is all about choice and flexibility for students. At our Open Days for Incoming Students on Friday 9th and Saturday 10th December, you will discover the choices UCD can offer you.
