On Wednesday
29th September 2004, an Honorary Fellowship was
bestowed
on Nobel prize winner Professor Erwin Neher by the L + H Society at UCD.
Auditor Frank Kennedy said it was significant that the society was
honouring such an eminent scientist, given that almost one third of
the society's membership is now made up of students from scientific disciplines.
Professor
Neher was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology/Medicine in 1991
for his work "Ion Channels for Communication Between and Within Cells".
At the presentation
ceremony, Professor Neher spoke about his research, his experience
of winning a Nobel prize, and took some questions from students
and staff about his work. His best advice for
someone starting out in a career of scientific research is to "...find what interests you most, on an emotional level, and stick with it". |
