Research
In addition to its teaching programs the Institute also continues to expand its research activities. The institute is currently involved in a number of collaborative research activities in the areas of Science & Technology Policy, Supply Chain and Value Chain Research.
Science & Technology Policy
A number of investigations have been carried out to build an information
base including data, insights and recommendations which are of practical
use for policy development in the fields of science, technology and innovation
policies.
Since April 2007, NITM is a new partner of the EU project “Network Models, Governance, and R&D Collaboration Networks” (NEMO) in the 6th Framework Programme of the European Commission which will continue its reseach until November 2009

Value chain modelling
The institute is a member of a multi-disciplinary group of researchers
drawn from Irish Universities and industry in the Centre for Telecommunications
Value Chain Research, a major SFI CSET programme. The focus of our research
in this area aims to provide a value chain perspective to the development
of next generation telecommunication networks.

Integrated Supply Chain Research
As part of the IBM Integrated Supply Chain Consortium -UCD is involved
in collaborative research together with three US universities - Arizona
State, Penn State and Michigan State -
and the National University of Singapore. In 2004 the partners formed
the consortium to further collaborative research in issues such as supply
chain security, service supply chain and services science
