Through innovative approaches to teaching and learning, we provide our students with the very best opportunities and supports to pursue their studies in order to become safe and effective, skilled and knowledgeable professional practitioners of nursing or midwifery.
As the largest and oldest University School of Nursing and Midwifery in Ireland we continue to play a leading role in the development of nursing and midwifery education, practice and research. Our four undergraduate programmes provide entry to general nursing, psychiatric nursing, children’s nursing and midwifery. We also offer a range of opportunities for further study at graduate level through a range of taught and research programmes. These programmes are delivered in a purpose-built, state-of-the art learning environment and students undertake clinical practice at national centres of excellence. Located in the UCD Health Sciences Centre, students benefit from daily interaction with other healthcare students and top-of -the range lecture facilities, library, information and computing resources, skills laboratories and student resource rooms. Our partner hospitals include: St. Vincent’s University Hospital, the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, St. Michael’s Hospital, St. John of God Hospital, Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, the National Maternity Hospital and Our Lady’s Hospice.
The School has an active research unit incorporating funded and graduate research on a number of key areas including older people, nursing and midwifery history, maternal and child health, clinical specialties and health systems. The School adopts a collaborative and partnership approach to research and our research partnerships are interdisciplinary and incorporate academic and clinical partners.
