Applied, Translational & Clinical Sciences
PhD Opportunities in the College of Life Sciences
What is Applied, Translational & Clinical Sciences?
A key role for researchers in the field of nursing, midwifery and health systems is to investigate aspects of clinical practice, in order to ensure that methods and approaches are effective in achieving desired patient outcomes. It is particularly important to rigorously test methods and interventions in nursing and midwifery, including long-established methods of care and novel care methods, if health professionals are to assure quality and effective care. Fundamental research, as exemplified in the randomized control trial, provides understandings of the processes at work in the social world and in clinical practice and, in particular, it gives objective evidence of the impact of clinical interventions. The means of translating that research into practice is also of concern.
