Ms Deirdre Kelleher BSc MSc

Biography:

Deirdre Kelleher is a lecturer in the School of Nursing Midwifery and Health Systems, University College Dublin, Ireland, since 2006. She completed a Bachelor of Nursing Studies Degree in University College Dublin (1998) and moved from clinical practice into the field of nurse education in 1999. She undertook her Masters of Science in Nursing Degree (Royal College of Nursing) in 2002 and commenced a PhD in October 2008.

Deirdre's areas of research interest include Fathers' experiences of caring for a child with complex care needs and innovative methods of education for undergraduate students.
She recently contributed to book reviews in the area of student development

Research and Scholarship:

In September 2008, I commenced my PhD part time, under the supervision of Dr Barbara Coughlan and Professor Gerard Fealy, in the UCD School of Nursing, Midwifery & Health Systems. The focus for my research is concerned with Fathers of Chronically Ill Children this is building upon my research I completed as part of my MSc in Nursing. My current working title is the experiences of fathers who provide parental care for their children with a life limiting illness within an Irish health care services. I have completed the background to the study, literature review and methodology chapters which were submitted and successfully accepted for transfer to PhD level in August 2010. I look forward to undertaking field work in this area.
