Biography:
| I qualified as a general nurse in St Michael's Hospital, Dun Laoghaire and as a psychiatric nurse in St John of God's Hospital, Stillorgan Dublin. My clinical nursing experience spans almost 15 years and is diverse, encompassing coronary care, intensive care, accident and emergency, medical, surgical and mixed clinical areas. I ultimately specialised in Coronary Care Nursing in St Vincent's University Hospital before undertaking a BNS and moving into the area of nurse education. Prior to working in UCD in 2002 I had nearly 10-years experience in pre-registration nurse-education in St Vincent's University Hospital, Dublin. I am currently an elected member of An Bord Altranais, a former appointed member of the National Council for the Professional Development of Nursing and Midwifery and a member of the Working Group of European Nurse Researchers (WENR) until it was inactivated in 2011 |
Research Interests
| My primary research interest is in the area of cardiac arrest management and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. I received the PJ Madden award for my MSc survey research on Basic Life Support Skills of Registered Nurses. I am currently registered for a PhD with the UCD School of Public Health and Population Science. The working title of my research is ‘Community Management of Sudden Cardiac Death/Cardiac Arrest in Ireland'. |
