Biography:

Kate Frazer holds a PhD in Public Health awarded by University College Dublin. She previously was awarded a Master's degree in Public Health and holds a Higher Diploma in Health care Risk Management from UCD. She was awarded a BSc(Hons) Health Studies from Queen's University Belfast.

She qualified as a registered nurse in 1990 (Royal Victoria Hospital Belfast (Belfast Northern College of Nursing)and has worked as a staff nurse in Belfast: Mater Infirmorium Hospital and the Royal Victoria Hospital between 1990 - 1993. Her clinical experience was gained in medical and surgical wards, a regional cardio thoracic surgical ward and a regional metabolic unit.

She moved to Dublin and worked as a staff nurse in the National Liver Transplant unit, St Vincent's University Hospital (1993). In 1996 she was employed as a nurse specialist at the hepatitis C liver clinic and extended the role in 1997 - 1999 with responsibility for research. In 1999 she left St Vincent's University hospital and commenced a full time Master's degree. In 2000 she was appointed as a practice development coordinator in the Mater Private Hospital, Dublin.

In 2001 she took up a research position in the Department of Public Health & Epidemiology, UCD, working for Professor Leslie Daly. She was appointed as a lecturer in the School of Nursing, Midwifery & Health Systems in 2003.

Her research interests relate primarily to population health issues, chronic disease and health promotion. Specific interests include hepatitis C and primary health care service planning and provision.
