Biography:
| Currently I am the Programme Coordinator for the MSc/Graduate Diploma Gerontology for Health Care Professionals. I also have co-responsibility for co-ordinating stage 1 of the Undergraduate BSc in Nursing (general). I am a lecturer in the School of Nursing, Midwifery & Health Systems since August 2002. Prior to this I worked as a registered nurse tutor in St Vincent's University Hospital, Elm Park Dublin and Beaumont Hospital Dublin. Prior to pursuing a Bachelor in Nursing studies I worked in a number of Dublin hospitals. I have international experience in the United Kingdom and the Middle East. I completed a Masters in Equality Studies in UCD. I successfully defended my PhD in March 2010. The title of my study was Women in Old Age: An Egalitarian Analysis of the Emotional Significance of Age-based Inequalities. I have worked as an external examiner for Nursing Degree courses at Trinity College Dublin 2007 until 2010. Presently I act as external examiner to the Special Purpose Award in Gerontology in Athlone Institute of Technology. |
Research Interests
| My current research interests are in relation to ageing and women. I have an underlying philosophy of applying emancipatory and participatory approaches. |
