Biography:

I qualified as a Registered General Nurse from St. James Hospital Dublin in 1991. Subsequently, I worked as an oncology nurse for over 10 years in Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre, New York, working in both surgical and medical oncology (primarily focusing on prostate cancer and other genitourinary cancers, colorectal cancer, head and neck cancer, and primary and secondary bone cancers).

In 1998, I graduated from Pace University in New York with a BSc in Nursing. In 2001, I received MA from New York University (NYU) and completed the Nurse Practitioner Program (NYU) simultaneously. In 2004, I completed a Higher Diploma in Nursing Education in UCD and just completed my PhD in UCD in 2011.

I have worked as a lecturer in UCD since 2003 where my main role is Programme Co-ordinator of the Graduate Diploma in Cancer Nursing. My research interests focus on prostate and breast cancer and the use of and issues pertaining to complementary alternative medicine use by patients with cancer.

Just completed (2011) PhD entitled "An Investigation of the use of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) among Women with Breast Cancer in Ireland" in the UCD School of Nursing, Midwifery & Health Systems.
(2005-2006): Granted funding for 1 year from Irish Cancer Society for conduct of study entitled: Use of Complementary and Alternative Medicines in Ireland; population perspectives and Oncology Service Provider attitudes.
