NovaUCD's 2010 results and related developments are outlined in its latest annual report which has just been published.

Results include 57 new invention disclosures reported by UCD researchers, the filing of 38 patent applications, including 14 priority, 9 PCT and 15 national/regional applications, the conclusion of 16 licence agreements and the location of 9 new high-tech companies at NovaUCD. The strengthening of UCD’s innovation strategy and the continuing support received by Enterprise Ireland is clearly having a significant impact on the level of knowledge transfer and commercialisation of UCD research.

Congratulations are due to two NovaUCD-client companies who have recently won major awards. Celtic Catalysts, the UCD life science spin-out company, won a 2011 Irish Times InterTradeIreland Innovation Award for the Application of R&D and Dr Emmeline Hill co-founder of Equinome, the UCD equine genomics company, received the 2011 David Manley Emerging Business Entrepreneur Award.

Thirteen new high-tech and knowledge-intensive business ventures have commenced NovaUCD’s 2011 Campus Company Development Programme (CCDP). The ventures and individuals participating on this year's entrepreneurship programme are commercialising research undertaken throughout the University.

NovaUCD is delighted to have had the opportunity to work with BT on devising and delivering the 2011 BT Business of Science & Technology Programme which took place at NovaUCD. The programme, which involved over 30 secondary school students, is an important initiative helping to develop an entrepreneurial culture amongst second level students in Ireland.

The first innovation lectures to be held as part of the 2011 InterTradeIreland All-island Innovation Programme took place in March in Queen’s University Belfast and in NUI Galway.   

The next innovation lectures will take place in mid-June in UCD and QUB and the speaker will be Professor Thomas Lawton, Professor of Strategy and International Business, EMLYON Business School, France.
