UCD Access Centre Outreach Activities

Through outreach programmes, the UCD Access Centre aims to encourage and facilitate increased participation at UCD by providing opportunities for potential students to investigate third level education options.

The Access Centre currently works with second level schools, community and voluntary organisations in the greater Dublin and Leinster area.

For our linked schools, applications for and details of our outreach activities are available from Anne Lavelle at accesscentre@ucd.ie or from your school's guidance counsellor.

Initiatives are scheduled throughout the year so please visit our website regularly. Our main outreach activities include:

Shadowing Scheme

The aim of the Shadowing Scheme is to offer prospective students an opportunity to find out more about their chosen area of study and experience student life firsthand. Pupils are invited to spend one day on campus in the company of a First Year UCD student learning about their programme of interest and college life in general.

When: The 2013 Shadowing Scheme will take place on Tuesday 26th February and Wednesday 27th February 2013. If you are a First Year student in UCD and are interested in taking part, please download the Shadowing Scheme 2013 Information Sheet and the UCD Access Centre Shadowing Scheme 2013 Application. Please return your completed application to Roisin Ryan, UCD Access Centre, Room 103 Tierney Building, Belfield, Dublin 4. The closing date for receipt of applications is Friday 8th February 2013. If you have any queries about the Scheme please contact Roisin at 01 716 1611.

School pupils from UCD-linked schools who are interested in attending Shadowing Day should contact their school's guidance councellor for an application form when the 2013 scheme opens.

Where: In pupils' schools

When: The current Voluntary Tutoring Programme began in September 2012 and will run until the end of November 2012.

5th Year Summer School

Each summer the UCD Access Centre hosts a residential summer school which gives Fifth Year school pupils from linked schools and organisations an opportunity to meet other motivated students.  Over the duration of this summer school, participants are given an opportunity to get a head start on preparing for their Leaving Certificate while also experiencing all that college life has to offer. This programme is residential.
