UCD Access Centre Prospective Students

UCD is committed to promoting wider and more equitable access to higher education. The UCD Access Centre participates in two supplementary admissions routes for school leavers;

The Disability Access Route (DARE) is an admissions scheme to promote equity of access to higher education for school leavers with a disability.

The Higher Education Access Route (HEAR) is a third level admissions scheme for school leavers from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

You should fill in your DARE / HEAR application to compete for one of the reduced points places on offer in the participating colleges.

UCD has a reserved number of places to offer eligible DARE / HEAR students at lower Leaving Certificate points.  UCD allows eligible applicants to compete for places with a 15% reduction off the published points for the course they wish to enter.   There are approximately 5% of UCD places reserved for HEAR eligible applicants and 5% for DARE eligible applicants.

You must meet the minimum course entry requirements to be considered for one of the reduced points places.

How can DARE and HEAR benefit students?

Places and post-entry support:

As well as being allocated a place on a reduced points basis, students who secure a place through DARE or HEAR are offered a variety of academic, personal and social supports while studying at third level. Students who accept a place in UCD through the HEAR scheme must attend a compulsory orientation programme. Students who accept a place in UCD through the DARE scheme must register with the UCD Access Centre Disability Support office.
