Building upon the award of an exploratory grant from IRCSET/IRCHSS (the two national research councils) which facilitates the establishment of Graduate Research Education Prorgammes (GREP's) such as the PhD in Sustainable Development, funding will be sought for a number of PhD scholarships (duration 3-4 years) to operate within the program. Regarding this funding students should note:
Scholarships for 3 years (Doctoral) or 1 year (Masters) for researchers in Science, Engineering and Technology. Fund postgraduate research in Humanities, Social Sciences, Business and Law. Funding covers all areas of health research from biomedical, translational, clinical and practice-based research, through to population health and health services research.
Grant holders who complete a primary degree course may have the grant renewed in order to undertake a full-time postgraduate course. The grant, which covers fees and possibly a contribution to subsistence, may be renewed in subsequent years but is limited to one postgraduate degree or diploma course for each student. A mature candidate (23 years of age on 1 January of year of entry to postgraduate study) may be eligible for a Local Authority grant on the basis of parents' income if ordinarily resident with parents or on the basis of own income if resident away from home. Details of income limits for eligibility are available from Local Authorities (Higher Education Section). Lecturers/Principal Investigators may already have funding in place for a proposed research project. These are usually obtained from European or National research projects, private companies, individual research awards, etc. |
