MA in Ancient Philosophy

The MA in Ancient Philosophy may be taken in one year full-time or two years part-time. At the heart of the the programme is the requirement to take six modules. Three of the following must be the following, offered by the School of Philosophy in 2012-13:  Please note modules are subject to change.

  • sem I:  PHIL40830 The Development of Platonism (John Dillon/Andrew Smith)
  • sem I:  PHIL40860 God, Soul & Nature in Ancient Philosophy (Fran O'Rourke)
  • sem II: PHIL41000  Living Well: Aristotle's Ethics and Politics (Tim Crowley)

Two further modules must be taken from the list of philosophy modules on offer in 2012-13 (see the descriptions on the right-hand menu). Finally, one module in Greek language must be taken.

In addition, all students must write a dissertation of 12-15,000 words, due on 23 August 2013. Students are advised to consult their lecturers during the autumn semester about possible dissertation topics and supervisors.

The admission requirements are the same as those for the MA Philosophy (general programe).
