Recent Honours & Awards

  • UCD School of Philosophy is recognized as one of the top ten schools in the English Speaking World for graduate studies in Twentieth Century Continental Philosophy
  • May 2009: Dr. Douglas Edwards is awarded a two year IRCSS fellowship.
  • May 2009: Gerard Casey is promoted to the rank of Associate Professor
  • Prof. Dermot Moran is awarded a IRCHSS Research Development Grant for a large project on the phenomenology of consciousness and subjectivity. The project aims to assess the enduring relevance of the phenomenological approach to consciousness, embodiment, and subjectivity, with regard to contemporary discussions of these issues in the philosophy of mind, cognitive sciences, and related human sciences
  • 2008-09: Dr. Christopher Mole is awarded an IRCHSS Research Development Grant for a reciprocal fellowship with Prof. Colin Klein (University of Illinois, Chicago) examining the scope and limits of neuroimaging as a source of data for cognitive psychology.
  • 2008-09: Prof. Maria Baghramian receives a UCD President's Research Fellowship
  • 2008-09: Dr Brian Elliott and Dr Rowland Stout are awarded research fellowships by the Irish Research Council for the Humanities and Social Sciences
  • 2007-2009: Dr Andrew Jorgensen is awarded a two year IRCSS fellowship for his project 'Meanings of Thumb: A Semantic Error Theory.
  • Professor Hilary Putnam, Honorary Visiting Professor in the School, is awarded the UCD Ulysses Medal.
  • Professor Dermot Moran has recently been appointed Series Editor (along with Nicolas De Warren, Wellesley University) of the Contributions to Phenomenology book series, published by Springer in cooperation with The Center for Advanced Research in Phenomenology.
  • Professor Dermot Moran is an Honorary Advisor to the Archive for Phenomenology & Contemporary Philosophy at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
