Intersubjectivity and Empathy Workshop

Aim of Workshop
This workshop will focus on the importance of empathy for interpersonal understanding and for the childs development of a notion of objectivity, where empathy is broadly construed as the ability to understand another’s cognitive states and emotions. It will take in perspectives from both classical phenomenology, developmental psychology and contemporary philosophy of mind. The aim is to further a dialogue between these disciplines with a view to gaining a more adequate understanding of the philosophical and empirical problems raised by our understanding of one another as sharing a common world. The workshop is part of the IRCHSS-funded project “The Phenomenology of Consciousness and Subjectivity”.
