UCD’s research efforts here are led by Profs Cecily Kelleher, Pat Wall and Mike Gibney, and span applied laboratory research, clinical management, and the psychosocial understanding of appetite. Our links with the UCD Institute for Food and Health (http://www.ucd.ie/foodandhealth/) allow laboratory scientists to interact with industry and our academic expertise to better address the challenges faced by diet-linked disease. Our clinical partnerships with medical consultants Dr Donal O’Shea (St Columcille’s Hospital and Saint Vincent’s University Hospital, http://www.stvincents.ie/Departments/Department_of_Endocrinology_&_Diabetes_Mellitus.htm)  and Prof Fionnuala McAuliffe (the (National Maternity Hospital, http://www.nmh.ie/iopen24/index.php) give researchers the platform to learn from patients and clinical colleagues, and facilitate the application of research to the search for better patient outcomes. With expertise in public health, nutrition, and psychology, the multi-disciplinary approach within UCD explores diet-related disease in an integrated manner.
