National Nutrition Surveillance Centre in UCD and the (opens in a new window)Health Service Executive publish latest results from Childhood Obesity Surveillance Initiative in Ireland
Launched on Thursday 4th May by Minister Corcoran-Kennedy, Minister of State for Health Promotion, the (opens in a new window)report show that levels of excess weight in children are stabilising.
The results also show that:
? at least one in five children are overweight or obese
? more girls than boys are overweight or obese across all ages
? those attending DEIS schools tend to have higher levels of overweight and obesity and the gap becomes wider as children get older
