UCD SPHPSS at the Irish Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism Conference (IrSPEN) 2019

UCD, in particular the School of Public Health Physiotherapy and Sports Science, was well-represented at the recent IrSPEN Conference and Policy Seminar held in the Aviva Stadium and opened by Professor John Reynolds, Professor of Surgery, TCD. 

The focus of the policy seminar was on nutritional care in cancer while the education programme included topical areas of nutrition research.  

Professor Giuseppe De Vito gave a fascinating insight into his research which demonstrates how exercise and nutrition are essential for athletes and healthy ageing.  Also from UCD, Professor Carel Le Roux spoke about achieving remission in Type 2 diabetes and A/Professor Eileen Gibney spoke on personalised nutrition. 

A/Professor Clare Corish chaired the afternoon sessions, Nicola Dervan participated, PhD students, Laura Bardon and Antje Von Der Schulenburg, postdoctoral researchers, Dr Patricia Dominguez Castro and Dr Ciara Reynolds and previous MSc in Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics students presented posters on their research, including the factors associated with malnutrition in older adults, how malnutrition is managed within primary care, trends in body mass in residential care, assessing maternal quality in early pregnancy and patient sources of nutritional information after cancer diagnosis.
