Transition Year Week at UCD School of Physics

Each year UCD hosts its transition year program in and around the first week in December. The week is aimed at transition year students who have a strong interest in pursuing a career in Science in general and Physics in particular.

STYPE 2009 will be held from Monday November 30 to Friday Dec 4th

Closing date 19th October for receipt of applications

We have finalised the list of students for this years event and can no longer accept any further entries. We have had a huge repsonse this year (>100 applicants seeking 25 places) and our commiserations to those who were not successful.

Last year we had the pleasure of hosting 23 students from all over the country for 5 days of lab activities, tours and lectures, punctuated with more relaxing events such as wall climbing and soccer.

As well as servicing schools in the greater Dublin area we also entertained students from such far flung places as St Fergal’s College, Co Laois and Ashbourne Community School, Co Meath Our last cohort of students:

  • had a blast preparing and launching team rockets
  • chilled out with ‘high-Tc’ superconductors
  • measured the speed of their own football kicks using a Doppler radar gun system
We also toured the state-of-the-art facilities both within UCD and the Nuclear Medicine Department of St Lukes Hospital.
