Dr Brian Vohnsen MSc PhD

Research Interests:

The research of Dr. Vohnsen is focussed on optics, imaging, nanooptics and biophotonics. He obtained his PhD degree from Aalborg University, Denmark in 1998 in work related to optical phase conjugation of optical near fields but has since expanded his interests further into advanced optical techniques. In this period he was also visiting researcher during 6 months at the IBM Rüschlikon research laboratory in Switzerland where he worked on novel near-field optical probe design. In 2001 he joined the Optics Laboratory LOUM in Murcia, Spain, first as a Marie Curie Post Doc and later as a Ramón y Cajal Research Fellow. In 2008 he became Lecturer and Stokes awardee in the School of Physics, Univ. College Dublin, Ireland. His current interests include, but are not limited to, optical imaging at and beyond the classical diffraction limit, the optics of the human eye and the retina, multiphoton microscopy, and adaptive optics. He forms part of the NanoBio stronghold at UCD and leads a research group on Advanced Optical Imaging.
