Biography:
Dr. Nicolae-Viorel (Vio) Buchete is a tenured College Lecturer of Theoretical & Computational Nano-Bio Physics in the UCD School of Physics. He has several postgraduate qualifications from universities in the US (Boston University), Romania (Al. I. Cuza University of Iasi), and Greece (University of Patras). Before moving to UCD, he obtained his PhD from Boston University in 2003, and he held a research fellowship at the National Institutes of Health (Bethesda, MD) until April 2008. His general research interests are in the areas of theoretical and computational nanoscience, biophysics and chemical physics. His ongoing research projects are concerned with statistical mechanics and molecular dynamics of biomolecular systems, systems biology and structural bioinformatics, and with multi-scale modeling of biomolecules and complex fluids.

- June 2011: (Post)graduate scholarships may become available during June/July 2011 for students in Nano-Bio Physics and Simulation Science in the UCD School of Physics. Candidates are strongly encouraged to submit via e-mail their CV and a brief statement of research interests, as soon as possible! Particular attention will be given to applicants with a Physics background interested in computational/theoretical research projects in systems biology, structural bioinformatics and/or atomistic and coarse-grained modeling of proteins and nucleic acids.

- January 2011: Our group joins the UCD Complex & Adaptive Systems Laboratory (CASL). The lab is relocated to the 3rd floor of the CASL Building. Please come and visit us!
