Betula Birch
A genus of medium sized often fast growing trees. Many with conspicuous bark. Catkins borne in Spring are succeeded by pendulous seed capsules. Betula pendula and B. pubescens are native in Ireland. Betula utilis and Betula utilis var jacquemontii are commonly planted landscape trees in urban areas.
