Liriodendron

Liriodendron  Tulip tree

A large relatively fast growing long lived tree to 30 – 35 m related to Magnolia.  It was introduced into cultivation from North America in the 1650’s. There are some fine venerable old trees in Irish gardens, the specimen at Knock Abbey, Ardee being a good example. Flowering in this country is not as prolific as in southern England where the climate is warmer.
