President’s Awards for Excellence in Student Activities 2014/15
The President’s Awards each year provide recognition for those students who excel in extracurricular activities of a kind that make UCD an exciting, interesting, dynamic and humane place to live, study and work. Staff and students at UCD are invited to nominate candidates for these awards.
Mollie Bruton,Nursing student, who as SU Health Sciences Convener, peer mentor and in numerous other roles has work tirelessly on behalf of Health Science students to create a strong community.
Si Ming Chin, Medicine student, has been a great ambassador for the thriving community of Malaysian students in UCD, both as producer of the Malaysia Night festivities and in other activities on campus.
Darren Doherty, Graduate Medicine student, represents the great sporting traditions of UCD both as captain of the Karate Club and an effective member of the AUC Executive Committee and UMT sub-group on the Student Experience.
Megan Fanning, Economic student and founding Auditor of the Economics Society, has overseen the development of the society into one of the most active on campus.
Sinéad Gaughan, mature Social Science student, has been a passionate advocate for disability rights as SU Disability Rights Coordinator and through other roles.
Kelley Gissane,English with Drama student, as Auditor of the Dramatic Society has volunteered tirelessly to ensure the society is one of the most active and participatory in the country.
Gráinne Larkin, Medicine student, as Auditor of the UCD Musical Society and in her role reforming the Musical Society Vocal Group she has promoted music across the campus.
Aoife McEvoy, Medicine student, has been a dynamic and innovative leader of MedSoc, one of the strongest societies on campus.
Kate O’Donnell, BA International student, has exemplified the spirit of volunteerism through her involvement with UCD Vincent de Paul, UCDVO, Rás UCD, Relay for Life and through other activities.
Melanie O’Donovan, Social Science student,has been a most energetic student representative in the UCD College of Human Sciences and has worked with staff members to develop an active community spirit.
Daisy Onubogu, Law student, has been a star debater, both in Ireland and abroad over a protracted period and Auditor of the L&H – one of the key student roles in UCD.
Vivienne Phelan, Veterinary Medicine student, as Auditor of the International Students Society she has done amazing work in helping to integrate international students into UCD.
Garry Ringrose, Business and Law student, a talented member of the Irish under-20 Rugby team but despite his international commitments, he has also been a committed member of the UCD Rugby club.
Conor Rock, History student, has brought a spirit of welcome and community to the multiple student groups who populate the Newman Building.
Sharon Ryan, Medicine student, has made an enormous contribution to musical life on campus both as a performer, director and administrator for the Musical and Dramatic Societies.
Daniel Salley, Science student, has made a huge contribution to the fund-raising work of the Science Society over many years.
