The ME in Electronic and Computer Engineering is a two-year programme that educates professional engineers who can excel in the burgeoning worldwide electronic and computer sectors. The programme can be taken by graduates with an honours bachelor's degree in electronic engineering or a closely related discipline. The student is provided with a deep understanding of a wide range of topics pertinent to the electronic and computer hardware and software industries. Knowledge and skills are built through a mix of taught courses, laboratory work, a major project and professional work experience. The qualification meets the international requirements for chartered professional engineers. Teaching methods vary, to suit the wide range of subjects. The strong laboratory component allows students to experience the practical side of electronic engineering, while assignments provide design and problem-solving challenges. In the final year, a substantial project draws together many of the separate strands of learning, with a stress on independent learning and communication skills. Throughout the programme there is a strong emphasis on the mathematical and analytical underpinnings of the discipline providing an excellent foundation for entry into advanced research programmes in academia and industry.
The ME (Electronic and Computer Engineering) degree programme is a 2-Stage, 2-year 120-credit programme. The normal workload is 30 credits per Trimester or 60 credits per year. Please consult the guidance documents before choosing your modules: here or from the Option Modules Header ****** If your prior learning has not been in UCD or BDIC, you should consult the Programme Director about prerequisites and other requirements. ***** The Academic Regulations for a Masters Programme require a minimum of 70 credits at Level 4. ***** Alternative Option: During the ME programme, students are permitted to select one 5-credit option module that is not on the list of option modules above, but the selected module must be approved by the Programme Director in advance.
