This taught masters programme is for students seeking to develop a career or hoping to undertake further studies in sustainable building analysis and design. It supports students to define themselves within the fields of sustainability, architecture, energy, environment and health. Students are encouraged and supported in the pursuit of a broad range of inter-related issues through active enquiry and autonomous investigation. The programme provides a learning environment within which each student is encouraged and can make a unique and individual contribution as well as being part of a team. It is delivered through lectures, seminars, tutorials and individual and group project work, all supported through contact time in class, individual supervisory sessions and online course content. Overall the programme is designed to place value on each individual and their contribution to the group, supporting their development through an inclusive, exploratory and encouraging learning environment.


1 - Work creatively in an interdisciplinary environment, utilising a range of methodologies to arrive at appropriate solutions in respect of sustainable building design.
2 - Demonstrate advanced theoretical and conceptual knowledge of sustainable building design and performance with an ability to apply it in a wide range of design challenges.
3 - Understand and participate in current debates within the area of sustainability as applied to building design and performance.
4 - Demonstrate an advanced ability to apply concepts and theoretical knowledge to related challenges both locally and globally.
5 - Demonstrate competence in using advanced techniques of measurement and analysis to investigate and analyse related phenomena and propose supported solutions.
6 - Employ new methods of enquiry to frame investigative research and to clearly communicate conceptually and intelligently.
7 - Demonstrate an appreciation of research into sustainable design and performance, develop skills as autonomous researchers, and recognise the value of research as an input into improved practice in sustainable building design.
